We are excited to welcome back class years ending in 5s and 0s; however, all alumni are welcome to attend. 

While the month has changed, our commitment to upholding the essence and tradition of Reunion remains steadfast. Combining Reunion with Family Weekend allows us to continue to deliver a high-quality experience, ensures our entire campus community has the opportunity to engage fully in the celebrations, and offers the opportunity for a broader and more robust schedule of activities. The move also better aligns with our fiscal and staffing needs, allowing the College to offer a well-staffed and diverse event at a reduced cost to attendees. 

What was the rationale for moving Reunion to September?

Several factors were considered when deciding to move Reunion to September in 2025. Those include:

  • Student Engagement: With students on campus in September, moving Reunion allows them to participate as volunteers can interact with alumni, enhancing the Reunion experience for both alumni and students.

  • Shared Budget Resources and Cost Savings: By aligning the event with Campus Life and Alumni Engagement activities, budget and human resources are optimized for planning and implementation. Having students already on campus eliminates the additional housing and meal expenses that are incurred during the summer.

  • Entertainment Lineup: By hosting Reunion and Family Weekend together, we can enhance event activities for both students and alumni. This includes traditional Reunion and Family Weekend activities like Dueling Pianos, Live Band Karaoke, Casino Night, Octagon Fair, the Annual Meeting with the President, Parade of Classes, Dancing on the Portico, and DIY events hosted by President & First Lady Lindsay. Additionally, there will be a joint event with the Parent & Family Council and the Alumni Board, featuring a Fireside Chat.

  • Diverse Event Offerings: A combined event provides an opportunity for a broader range and more robust events. This includes home athletic competitions, classroom visits, more faculty available for alumni presentations, more faculty available to reconnect with former students, and a more robust Reunion auction that would be open to students, employees, and families.

  • Increased Volunteer Support: With the entire campus community present, there will be more volunteers available to support Reunion activities.

  • Dining Services: Parkhurst Dining does not operate during the summer except for special events. Hosting Reunion at a time they are fully operational, ensures quality food service with adequate staffing and supplies.

Were alumni surveyed about the change?

Yes. Feedback from Reunion 2024 and previous years' surveys highlighted several areas for improvement:

  • Cost concerns

  • Underwhelming food options

  • Low attendance and engagement

  • Desire for more interaction with students, faculty, and staff

  • Timing

What about those who are teachers or have kids in school?

Mid-June has posed a problem for many alumni throughout the years. New York State schools are generally in session until the third or fourth week of June. Going earlier in the month conflicts with Father’s Day Weekend and graduations and graduation parties for alumni who are in neighboring states. Elementary and high school athletics and activities run August - June for many of our alumni making it difficult to find a time that avoids these conflicts.

Will on-campus housing still be available?

Yes. The College currently has availability to host alumni on campus in residence halls, such as Tompkins Hall, for those who would like to stay on campus. However, in recent years many alumni have opted for off-campus accommodations. There are 11 hotel properties in the Elmira-Corning region and many offer a discounted rate for those visiting Elmira College.

Won’t having two events at the same time put a strain on EC resources?

As shared above, hosting Reunion and Family Weekend at the same time reduces strain on resources that aren't normally in full operation during the summer, provides more student and staff engagement opportunities, and provides some cost savings.

Reunion Awards

We will be presenting the Philanthropic Class of the Year and Most EC Spirited awards again this year.

Elmira College Reunion Spirit Award 

This award is given to the reunioning class that shows the most school spirit, which can be demonstrated in several ways: the loudest, most versed in school song, the most prepared in class theme (the theme can be ELMIRA COLLEGE!), etc. The award will be announced by President Lindsay at the Annual Meeting with the President. This award will be presented at each Reunion and will be on display on Campus throughout the year.

The Elmira College Philanthropic Class of the Year 

This award is given to the Reunioning class that has fundraised the most since their last Reunion. The award will be announced at the Annual Meeting with the President and the class who earned the award will be announced by Lindsay Baker, Director of Advancement Services. This award will be presented at each Reunion and will be on display on Campus throughout the year.
